Thinking about Taking iCarnegie Courses?

This page provides useful information and links for those considering enrollment in iCarnegie courses.

Who Should Enroll?
iCarnegie students should have an interest in programming, software and Web application design, problem-solving, and project development. They should have a desire to work hard to obtain highly competitive skills and education, which will give them a significant edge in the workplace. iCarnegie students typically are interested in career preparation and long-term employment prospects, rather than just gaining skills in the popular vendor-specific technology du jour. Many also see the value in successfully completing courses that were developed in partnership with Carnegie Mellon's School of Computer Science faculty and are recognized for transfer credits by Carnegie Mellon.

iCarnegie students come from a very wide range of backgrounds and skill levels, including:

  • Recent graduates of high-schools or post-secondary schools, who are entering higher education for the first time.
  • Those already in higher education who are interested in taking these courses in addition to their current primary program of study (as a minor, double major, or just to add to their overall training).
  • IT professionals that seek to modernize their skills in specific new areas.
  • Career changers or adult learners who want to gain expertise in a new field of study.
  • Corporate training groups that require a team of employees to learn new skills.
Pre-requisites for entering the iCarnegie curriculum at the first course (SSD1) include Algebra II, an interest in euclidean geometry, interest in problem-solving, and familiarity with using computers and the World Wide Web. Pre-requisites for each of the 10 iCarnegie courses may be determined by each licensed education partner, but a general summary can be found in our Curriculum section of this website, by visiting each course.
